Alumni Association
Purpose
The School of Education’s Alumni Association's purpose is to serve and extend the interests of the School of Education. It seeks to promote a spirit of fellowship among its graduates, to strengthen their relations with the School of Education, and to further the activities of the School of Education toward the realization of its programs.
The Alumni Association is the main conduit for the exchange of information and ideas between the School of Education and the alumni. It is the organization that represents and connects all alumni to the School of Education and to each other.

How the Association Fits into the School of Education
Today, there are more than 18,000 UNC-Chapel Hill School of Education graduates living throughout the US and around the world. Approximately 11,000 of our alumni live across the state of North Carolina. The Alumni Association not only seeks to link these alumni to the School of Education, but also to current students and interested members of the community.
Membership
All persons who have been awarded a degree and/or licensure by the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Education are members of the Alumni Association.
Activities of the Association
The activities of the Association are carried out through the collaborative efforts of volunteers and School of Education staff. The Association works closely with alumni to help plan programs and special events, generate publicity, and provide advice and other assistance. But these activities rely primarily on individual alumni and on the staff for the resources and services necessary to bring them about.
Alumni Council
The Council is the governing and policy-making body of the School of Education’s Alumni Association.
Structure
The Alumni Association is guided by an elected Alumni Council of twenty-one members, which includes five officers and the Dean of the School of Education. Two faculty members also sit on the Council for a term of one year. The Council has been structured to provide the broadest possible representation of alumni to the School of Education, and to give the School of Education the greatest access to the wisdom and experience of the alumni.
Terms of Office
The term of office for Council officers is two years. The term of office for Council members is three years.
Meetings
The full Council meets three times a year in the fall, winter and spring. Additional meetings may be called as indicated in the Bylaws. The Executive Committee, consisting of the five officers, meets in the months between the full Council meetings. These meetings may be monthly, if needed.
Elections
All active members of the Association are eligible for election to the Council. The Nominating Committee presents a slate of candidates by February 1 of each year consisting of one nominee for each vacancy to occur as a result of expiring terms of office.
